Shocking Attack Against an Asylum-Seeking Woman from Congo in Larnaca

While holding her son in her arms, an Asylum-Seeking woman was physically attacked in Larnaca on Wednesday 13/07/22. It was reported to us that the woman had bought a car from the perpetrator after being reassured that the car had no issues. However, after the payment, the car had some problems, and the woman took the car to the mechanic to confirm the car’s condition, whereby the mechanic informed her that the car actually had several problems. When the woman told the perpetrator about the car’s issues, he refused to discuss any possible solutions and said to her that nothing could be done to him as he was in his country and proceeded to attack her.
 
We strongly condemn all acts of violence, including acts of violence against the most vulnerable people of our society. We call on the authorities to take action and protect all members of the society regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, socioeconomic – residence status and any other status.
 

Generation for Change CY’s Managing Director Etinosa Erevbenagie-Johnbull was on Alpha News to speak on the issue and provide information about the latest updates. On Friday 15/07/22, it was reported that the perpetrator has been placed in custody under the charges of racist and xenophobic attack, causing actual bodily harm, violence against women and threats of public insult.

Ενώ κρατούσε τον γιό της στην αγκαλιά της, μια γυναίκα Αιτών άσυλο δέχθηκε σωματική επίθεση στη Λάρνακα την Τετάρτη 13/07/22. Μας ανέφεραν ότι η γυναίκα είχε αγοράσει αυτοκίνητο από τον δράστη, αφού την διαβεβαίωσαν ότι το αυτοκίνητο δεν είχε κανένα πρόβλημα. Ωστόσο, μετά την πληρωμή, το αυτοκίνητο παρουσίασε κάποια προβλήματα και η γυναίκα πήγε το αυτοκίνητο στον μηχανικό για να επιβεβαιώσει την κατάσταση του αυτοκινήτου, με τον μηχανικό να την ενημερώνει ότι το αυτοκίνητο είχε πράγματι αρκετά προβλήματα. Όταν η γυναίκα μίλησε στον δράστη για τα προβλήματα του αυτοκινήτου, εκείνος αρνήθηκε να συζητήσει πιθανές λύσεις και της είπε ότι δεν μπορούσε να του κάνει κανένας τίποτα καθώς βρισκόταν στη χώρα του και της επιτέθηκε.
 
Καταδικάζουμε έντονα όλες τις βίαιες πράξεις, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των πράξεων βίας κατά των πιο ευάλωτων ανθρώπων της κοινωνίας μας. Καλούμε τις αρχές να αναλάβουν μέτρα και να προστατεύσουν όλα τα μέλη της κοινωνίας ανεξάρτητα από τη φυλή, την εθνικότητα, τη θρησκεία, το φύλο, την κοινωνικοοικονομική κατάσταση – διαμονή και οποιαδήποτε άλλη ιδιότητα.
 

Η διευθύνουσα σύμβουλος του Generation for Change CY, Etinosa Erevbenagie-Johnbull, βρέθηκε στο δελτίο ειδήσεων του Alpha για να μιλήσει για το θέμα και να ενημερώσει για τις τελευταίες εξελίξεις. Την Παρασκευή 15/07/22, δημοσιεύτηκε ότι ο δράστης τέθηκε υπό κράτηση με τις κατηγορίες της ρατσιστικής και ξενοφοβικής επίθεσης, της πρόκλησης πραγματικής σωματικής βλάβης, της βίας κατά των γυναικών και της απειλής δημόσιας εξύβρισης.

Caring & Learning: World Refugee Day

To support families in child-rearing, the first Caring and Learning workshop took place on Saturday the 18th of June, at Colours Daycare by Cynthia: an event dedicated to expectant parents and parents of children up to 3 years of age.

During the workshop, parents followed an informative childcare session by Ioli Orphanide Eteocleous, president of Birthforward and Cynthia Savvides, founder of Colours Daycare by Cynthia and co-founder of Generation for Change CY. Meanwhile, the children spent an afternoon playing in a stimulating playground designed for their age group, supervised by Generation for Change CY staff. Ioli presented the Babybuddy app, which provides socially inclusive prenatal and postnatal education to expectant and new parents. Cynthia provided information and hands-on tips on the importance of quality play and how to self-produce stimulating toys for children 0-3.

Για την υποστήριξη των οικογενειών στην ανατροφή των παιδιών, το Σάββατο 18 Ιουνίου πραγματοποιήθηκε το πρώτο εργαστήρι Caring and Learning στο Colours Daycare by Cynthia: μια εκδήλωση αφιερωμένη σε μελλοντικούς γονείς και γονείς παιδιών ηλικίας έως 3 ετών.

Κατά τη διάρκεια του εργαστηρίου, οι γονείς παρακολούθησαν μια ενημερωτική συνεδρία για τη φροντίδα των παιδιών από την Ιόλη Ορφανίδη Ετεοκλέους, πρόεδρο του Birthforward και τη Σύνθια Σαββίδη, ιδρύτρια του Colours Daycare by Cynthia και συνιδρύτρια του Generation for Change CY. Παράλληλα, τα παιδιά πέρασαν το απόγευμα παίζοντας σε μια παιδική χαρά που είχε σχεδιαστεί για την ηλικία τους, υπό την επίβλεψη του προσωπικού του Generation for Change CY. Η Ioli παρουσίασε την εφαρμογή Babybuddy, η οποία παρέχει προγεννητική και μεταγεννητική ενημέρωση και καθοδήση σε μελλοντικούς και νέους γονείς. Η Cynthia παρείχε πληροφορίες και πρακτικές συμβουλές σχετικά με τη σημασία του ποιοτικού παιχνιδιού και τον τρόπο αυτοπαραγωγής διεγερτικών παιχνιδιών για παιδιά 0-3 ετών.
