Participation at the 2023 Warsaw Human Dimension Conference of OSCE

Participation at the 2023 Warsaw Human Dimension Conference of OSCE

“There has been an escalation of anti-migrant and anti-refugee rhetoric in the last few years, with insufficient force and effort to promote pro-humanitarian sentiment, solidarity, and a welcoming environment. Instead, State representatives, politicians, and the media have overwhelmingly promoted the anti-migrant rhetoric within the OSCE participating states. The FRA highlighted that bias-motivated crime, every year, has increased, becoming a daily reality of racialised people across the EU.

The human rights of migrants and refugees are multifaceted and influenced by various interconnected factors. We could try to invest our energy in analysing how migrants’ limited access and materialisation of the right to participate in Government or the stark underrepresentation of migrants in public life and civic space across the OSCE region have a ripple effect across multiple other violations experienced by migrants, such as right to Asylum, Education, and Adequate Living Standard.”

This segment is from the address given by Etinosa Erevbenagie-Johnbull, the Managing Director of Generation for Change CY, during the Plenary Session on Tolerance and Non-Discrimination at the 2023 Warsaw Human Dimension Conference of OSCE, which took place on October 11th in Warsaw.

Watch the full address in the video above.

We also welcome the reply of the Republic of Cyprus delegation participating in the conference. We anticipate and encourage the materialisation of actions corresponding to the mentioned Cypriot State’s policies in ensuring tolerance and non-discrimination against refugees, displaced persons, and migrants.

Increased Participation in our Education Programmes

Increased Participation in our Education Programmes

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela.

This inspiring quote deeply aligns with the core mission of our organisation in empowering and integrating asylum seekers, refugees and migrants and promoting social cohesion. It is with immense pride that we share the news that our educational programs have now reached a remarkable number of participants—300 individuals coming from 40 different countries. In light of the multitude of obstacles women often encounter in their pursuit of education, we are particularly delighted to report that over 55% of our programme’s participants are women.
Our courses, which encompass subjects ranging from computer skills, Greek, and English language proficiency to life skills and graphic design, cater to both adults and minors. These courses are offered in both, in-person and online formats, all thanks to the tireless dedication of our exceptional team of educators.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our students, who have demonstrated unwavering commitment to their learning journeys, as well as to our educators, whose expertise and enthusiasm have made this possible. Lastly, we would like to express our profound gratitude to our supporters and donors, whose unwavering belief in our mission continues to drive positive change.

Representation Matters! Fostering children’s appreciation and respect towards diversity with inclusive literature, media, and toys

Representation Matters! Fostering children's appreciation and respect towards diversity with inclusive literature, media, and toys

Have you ever wondered how you can make children feel valued in a diverse community? What leads to raising anti-racist children? What contributes to shaping their views and attitudes about Muslims, black people, refugees – asylum seekers and other minorities in Cyprus?

In the brochure below, we present the impact of the representation of racialised people in literature, media, and toys on children of racialised and non-racialised communities and give recommendations.

The brochure was created in the framework of the #RepresentationMatters events co-hosted by Generation for Change CY within the MakeRacismHistory Festival by the European Network Against Racism (ENAR).
