CREATE Project Press Release

Announcement: CREATE Project Launches Language Classes for Young Migrants and Refugees Across Europe

Nicosia, Cyprus 20 June 2025

The CREATE project (Creativity in Education to Achieve Targeted Empowerment in Second Language Learning), funded by the European Union under the AMIF programme, proudly announces the start of transnational language classes for young migrants and refugees aged 13–18. The launch is the culmination of a comprehensive preparation process, including the development of innovative learning materials and the transnational training of educators.

Implemented in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, and France, the program’s first cycle will engage over 600 children, with instruction tailored to the needs of young learners. Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to obtain formal language certification at the A1 and A2 levels through GlobalCert NOCN.

The educational model is grounded in the CREATE Language Methodology, which emphasizes interactive, trauma-sensitive, and culturally responsive teaching practices. This was further brought to life through the publication of CREATE 1 and CREATE 2, two student books designed to support learners from pre-A1 to A2 levels. These books are filled with contextualized, engaging content that develops both linguistic and socio-emotional skills.

Ahead of the rollout, 150 educators from all partner countries participated in a transnational and national trainings. This training equipped them with strategies to implement CREATE’s learner-centered, task-based pedagogy and prepared them to foster creativity and inclusion in their classrooms.

The classes represent a crucial step in supporting integration and empowerment for migrant youth. “These language classes are not just about learning grammar, they’re about building confidence, enabling self-expression, and creating pathways” says Project Coordinator, Kenneth Brant Hansen.

CREATE is led by Faros (Greece) in collaboration with French Red Cross (France), Glossomatheia (Greece), Dedalus Cooperativa (Italy), Open Cultural Centre (Spain), Generation for Change CY (Cyprus) and Oxfam Italia (Italy).
