Sports can be a powerful tool for integration, relief, health promotion and human connection. GFC is involved in the creation of Hope Team, a male basketball team created by Coach Kostas Eglezzos, with the support of Hellenic Bank, Cyprus Basketball Federation, Cyprusbasket.net and UNHCR Cyprus. The basketball team consists of 15 refugees and migrants and 3 coaches, all uniting their efforts to provide a safe space for migrant athletes to explore their talents, develop their skills and get the chance to learn about the Cypriot culture through sports. We believe sports can be a valuable vehicle to promote social inclusion of marginalized persons and other vulnerable groups and, therefore, this initiative will play an integral role in supporting asylum seekers and refugees.
