Through advocacy and awareness-raising activities, we highlight discriminatory practice and policies as well as the tools and mechanisms available to confront these.

RAISE
In the EU, one in two women above the age of 15 has experienced sexual harassment, and 22% of women who have been in a partnership have endured sexual and/or physical violence by a partner. While gender-based violence (GBV) is a global and systemic issue, women and girls in displacement and migrant contexts face heightened risks – before departure, during their journey, and after arrival in the host-country.
RAISE seeks to empower migrant communities in Cyprus, Greece, and Spain by raising awareness and building resilience to prevent GBV against women. Through intersectional research, the project contributes to close data gaps concerning the GBV-related experiences and needs of migrant women across partner countries. It supports both migrant women and men through capacity-building, community engagement, and public awareness-raising initiatives, strengthening knowledge and fostering individual and collective agency to combat and prevent GBV against women.
Specific Objectives
- To map the intersectional experiences and needs of migrant women related to GBV in intimate and domestic relationships through qualitative and quantitative research in all partner countries.
- To enhance the knowledge of migrant women and men on GBV through capacity-building workshops, enabling them to build resilience and prevent GBV in their communities.
- To foster individual and collective agency of migrant women to stand up against GBV through the establishment of an empowerment group and mentorship scheme in each partner country.
- To raise awareness on GBV in migrant communities, by engaging migrant women, men, community leaders, relevant stakeholders, and the wider public through targeted events, digital resources, and a social media campaign.
Key Activities
- Conducting 15 focus group discussions with over 100 migrant women, at least 35 interviews with professionals working with migrants and refugees, and a survey questionnaire with at least 1,100 participants across the three countries.
- Implementation of capacity-building workshops for migrant women (156) and men (110) across the three countries.
- Establishment of an empowerment group for migrant women in each country.
- Development of a 3-month mentorship program with women experts to support and accompany migrant women mentees in various fields.
- Organization of 15 discussions with male community leaders, raising their awareness on GBV, how to respond, and prevent it.
