Training for Change: Enhancing Support for Migrant and Refugee Women Facing GBV
Our team participated in an 11-hour focused training on Gender-Based Violence Against Women, led by the Cyprus Family Planning Association.
The training introduced survivor-centered and trauma-informed approaches to case management, emphasizing safety, empowerment, and dignity in supporting survivors.
Special attention was given to the heightened vulnerability of migrant and refugee women to GBV, along with practical strategies for identifying and handling such cases sensitively and professionally.
Participants gained essential counseling skills, including how to provide Psychological First Aid, maintain confidentiality, and build trust. The session also covered referral pathways and the Cypriot legal framework related to GBV and domestic violence, including case workers’ legal responsibilities.
The training strengthened the team’s ability to respond to GBV through a compassionate, informed, and rights-based approach.
The training was carried out as part of the ELEVATE HERight project, which is implemented by Generation for Change CY and the Cyprus Family Planning Association in the framework of the PREVENT programme. PREVENT is co-funded by the European Union, through the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme, the Bodossaki Foundation and the NGO Support Centre with a total grant amount of €2.3 million.
