Youth Speak Up: Bridging Gaps in Rights, Representation & Respect
🗣️ “What am I supposed to do when I’ve been waiting for my asylum to be processed for 5 years and I’m stuck in limbo, unable to plan my future?”
📚 “While we Cypriot students are preparing for the Pan-Cyprian exams, our friends and classmates with a migrant background can’t take them due to Greek language barriers. How can we ensure they’re not left behind?”
🫱🏽🫲🏻 “What can be done to ensure the effective reporting of racist attacks in schools, in line with the Code of Conduct Against Racism?”
These were just some of the heartfelt and urgent questions raised by participants at our Youth Roundtable, where young people from refugee, migrant, and EU backgrounds came together to engage directly with decision-makers.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us at the Jean Monnet Amphitheatre, University of Nicosia, for this important exchange focused on youth awareness, knowledge gaps, and barriers to civic and democratic participation in Cyprus.
Special thanks to representatives from the Office of the Commissioner for Gender Equality, UNHCR, and the Ministry of Education, Sport, and Youth for showing up, listening attentively, answering questions transparently, and discussing concrete ways to promote meaningful youth engagement in public life.
Our thanks also go to the University of Nicosia for hosting the event, and to ANT1 for covering the roundtable and helping to elevate the voices of youth.
